Desire the New: Ask!

Psalm 37:4 says that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our heart. That is right, the desires of our heart. These are the desires God wants us to have. The desires that are on His heart. One may say they are the promises of God. Some of us are asking where are some of these desires we have been waiting for? Why are we not seeing them happen yet? Well, we have to be patient and trust God. But while we are waiting, we can do what we can to get to that point.

I often write about having faith for God’s promises or in other words His plans for your life. In Step Into The New I wrote about how we have to start somewhere or take those first steps. But I didn’t go into much detail about how to know what to do. How do we know what those first steps are? How do we know what to do, even after the first steps? Sometimes it gets confusing or overwhelming. Sometimes some of us think we are doing everything we can when we are missing a key component. For many of us it means a change of heart. Forgiveness has always been a struggle for me, but I know I have to and so I do. I wrote in Dreams: Bride of Christ how we have to forgive before God can prepare a table for us. I also wrote in Step Into The New! about how God can give us strategic directions. But what about when we think we are doing everything we can? What are we missing?

I know I am putting a lot of questions in here but maybe some of us need to start asking these questions. Who can answer these questions? Let’s see, who would be able to answer questions about God’s plans? God!

A great example of someone who asked God for help in a desperate situation is King Hezekiah. He was the king of Judah when the Assyrians were threatening to take them down. Hezekiah was worried about the Assyrians attacking because the Assyrian army had already conquered Israel and parts of Judah. Hezekiah feared their army could not take the Assyrians on their own. The Assyrians were the most powerful army. The king of Assyria named Sennachorib often sent messengers to bully and put fear into the people of Judah. Sennachorib was filled with pride and spoke skillful and cunning words to try to get his way. Hezekiah was frightened but then he did all he could do: He asked the Lord for help in earnest prayer. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much (James 5:16). It is when we pray from our heart the Lord hears us and answers our prayer.

In John 14:13-14 Jesus tells us “And whatsoever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” Hezekiah asked God for help in a dire situation. Right when it looked like there was no hope and the Assyrians were going to overtake them, an Angel of the Lord killed 185,000 Assyrians soldiers in one night! God showed up for His people and delivered them from their trouble because they asked. They no longer had to worry about defeat from the Assyrian army. Just as God helped Hezekiah, He can help you no matter what situation you are in.

We may need to ask God what He wants us to do, whether that is a first step for some of us or the key component we may be missing. We know God’s plans will come to pass but we have to ask him for guidance and instruction. He will deliver us if we ask. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers them out of them all (Psalm 34:19). Just as God delivered Hezekiah and the people of Judah, He can show up for you today. Whatever we need from God He will help us if we ask. Sometimes we have to ask for help or instructions more than once. Hezekiah later fell ill and was told by Isaiah that he would soon die. He asked God to spare his life and reminded God about his loyalty to Him. God heard Hezekiah and added 15 more years to his life! You can read about the story of Hezekiah in 2 Chronicles 29 and in 2 Kings 18.

As an example, in my own life, here recently I kept wondering about what direction I wanted to take in my life. I thought maybe I should quit blogging. I think I need to read my blog posts on YouTube as well. I also want to sing on Youtube but where do I begin? Things got a little confusing and frustrating, especially when certain blockages arrived. So I asked God “what do you want me to do Lord,” and this blog post started getting wrote. God delivered me out of confusion. It seems so simple to ask but it is simple because “God is not the author of confusion” (1 Corinthians 14:33). The devil is the author of confusion. I am sure the devil wants us to be frustrated and confused rather than to ask God for help.

I don’t have my YouTube situation figured out yet; but in the meantime I am going to continue with my blog posts and rest in God. Please pray God guides me in everything I need to do in my life to get to where God wants me to be. God gives me many prophetic dreams that are for a later time so I have to be patient and wait on Him. I cannot get too frustrated with the details. I am going to rest in God and let him work out the details. If I feel like I am missing something or I don’t know what to do next I will ask the Lord and He will answer me. Praise God! He loves us and wants to help us!
